Routing Party

My brother-in-law runs a Wireless ISP in my town (Lake Odessa). He reaches those of us who live in the country and can't touch cable or DSL or anything short of satellite. Well, he was working on redesigning the entire network. He had originally set everything up on 1 class C subnet. Problem is that with all of the growth that he has been going through, he needed to start thinking about redesigning to allow for that growth.

So, he invited me and a friend of ours (the best man from my wedding so many years ago) to come over Saturday night at 8 for a "routing party." Well, of course I asked how big of a geek did I have to be to get invited to a routing party. No one answered, because we all knew the answer was off the geek scale.

So, I went to the routing party, which was good, because I think I had the most experience with network design/redesign. So, we worked through a number of issues, which were all caused becuase previous design hadn't been documented well. (Note to self and all others, document everything.) Anyway, we worked until about 1:30 in the morning. But, we got everything running except for changing various client configurations, which was simple keyboard work for my brother-in-law until 4:30.

So, had a good time and it was good to spend time with those 2 guys. Also good to put my networking skills in a new environment and test them and help others.

Aloha.
